Discover the Manitouwadge FeederWatch Cam
The FeederWatch Cam in Manitouwadge, Ontario, offers a prime spot to observe a variety of winter finches, such as redpolls and grosbeaks, along with Jays and Ruffed Grouse. Situated in a large backyard with a towering birch tree, mixed conifers, and fruit-bearing shrubs, this camera captures a diverse bird population in a picturesque setting. Beyond the backyard, a small swamp, expansive woods, and a serene lake create an idyllic backdrop for birdwatching.
Feeder System Highlights
- Ingenious Design: The feeders are elevated using plastic piping to prevent squirrels from accessing them, and they feature a rotating system that offers black oil sunflower seeds, nyjer seed, whole and shelled peanuts, and homemade peanut butter suet.
- Bird Variety: Viewers can enjoy watching dozens of bird species that frequent the feeders, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.
About the Hosts
Tammie and Ben Haché have been dedicated members of Project FeederWatch since 2002. Their meticulous bird counting has provided invaluable insights into winter bird behaviors. Highlights from their FeederWatching include sightings of over 200 Evening Grosbeaks at once, high counts of Hoary Redpolls, a rare White-winged Dove, and a summer filled with hummingbirds. Their commitment to feeding birds is evident; in the winter of 2014 alone, over 750 pounds of sunflower seeds were consumed!
